The 2026 Mayor’s Community Awards in Lisburn and Castlereagh have been declared open for applications by Mayor, Alderman Amanda Grehan.
These awards by Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council shine a spotlight on the outstanding contributions of volunteers and community groups across the council area.
Mayor Amanda said: “The Mayor’s Community Awards are a wonderful opportunity for us to say ‘thank you’ to the many individuals and groups who dedicate their time to helping others and strengthening community spirit.
“Across Lisburn and Castlereagh, there are so many people who quietly make a difference every day, whether it’s organising local projects, fundraising, or offering vital support to those in need. Their hard work and commitment truly deserve to be recognised and celebrated.”
She continued: “This is your chance to tell us about those incredible individuals or groups who go above and beyond to improve the lives of others. These awards are a great way to share the positive stories that make our community so special so please get involved and submit your nominations!”
The council is inviting nominations for six award categories:
• Brian McDowell Volunteer of the Year Award
• Fiona Irvine North Star

Councillor Tim Mitchell, Communities & Wellbeing Chairman, also praised the initiative: “I am delighted the council can work in partnership with the Education Authority, South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust and Volunteer Now to help deliver this worthwhile scheme.
