Here at Lagan Valley Island, we are committed to providing an outstanding model of fully inclusive and accessible customer service and are proud to offer excellent disabled facilities throughout the building such as:
Loop Systems
Lagan Valley Island employs two types of loop systems located throughout the building:
Standard Induction Loop System - requires the patron to turn their hearing aid to 'T' position
Infra Red Loop System - requires the patron to wear a necklace, which can be obtained from the main reception desk
The loop systems are in place in the Chief Executive Office, all reception desks, The Island Hall*, Studio Theatre and the Interview Rooms on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floor. *A necklace is required
Braille signs
Braille can be found in all of the lifts throughout Lagan Valley Island, which indicate the floors within the building. Braille can also be found on the Professor Pantridge memorial located at the front of the building.
Disabled parking
There are 15 disabled bays located throughout the Council's car parks:
- 9 bays at the front of the building
- 2 bays in the restaurant carpark
- 4 bays at the Arts Centre car park
Access facility
This disabled changing facility was one of the first of its kind in Northern Ireland. The large changing room, situated on the ground floor of the building, is completely suitable for both children and adults with a disability and is equipped with an adjustable changing table, adjustable sink, hoist-operated by pendant and slings to accommodate most frame sizes.
There is plenty of space for wheelchair access to move around the various facilities.
Disabled access lift
There are two lifts located in the main area of the building.
Dog toilet facilities for guide dogs
A dog toilet facility is located near the Arts Centre entrance to facilitate for guide dogs.
Buddy card
The Buddy Card Scheme makes it easier for disabled persons to use Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council leisure, arts and community facilities. Some people who use our theatre facilities may need a friend or family member to assist them in participating in specific activities. This person known as their buddy would receive free access under this scheme. Complete the application form and return it along with a passport size photograph to our reception team.
Communication
We can provide brochures in large print or Braille on request. You will see at the bottom of this screen, we offer the ReachDeck service on this website to assist those with reading difficulties, literacy problems, mild vision difficulties and where English is not a first language.
